For many decades now, supporters of animal rights firmly advocate against the use of real fur. They continually condemn companies as well as people using it.
However, real fur clothing seem irresistible to some people; and the reason behind it is unsurprising – it feels incredible to wear real fur, the material just feels excellent against your skin. Because of this fur craze, some turn to faux fur instead so as to get to enjoy wearing fur while preserving the lives of the animals where real fur comes from.
Faux fur was first made in the year 1929 and was made available to the public in 1950s. The fame of wearing faux fur has risen dramatically when animal rights advocates exposed how using real fur affects animals negatively and, in turn, promoted the use of faux fur instead.
Faux fur, also known as fake fur, is typically created from synthetic materials such as acrylic or polyester. Before, fashion enthusiasts tend to choose faux fur that almost totally resembles real fur; but now, the trend has shifted that the use of faux fur with various prints and designs is widely accepted if not preferred over real fur.
There are many reasons to prove that faux fur may actually be better than real fur. One of them is that faux fur is relatively easier to store. Since faux fur is made from synthetic materials, it can just be placed in your closet together with your other clothes. Real fur, on the other hand, requires the help of professional services when it comes to storing. Real fur needs to be placed in cold temperatures; otherwise, you risk it being damaged from warm temperatures and it can possibly be ruined because of moths.
Another advantage of faux fur is that it is relatively easier to clean than real fur. Faux fur is easier to maintain that it may be treated using spot cleaning in case you’ve spilt some liquid onto it. There are also faux furs that may be hand washed, machine washed, or dry–cleaned; whereas with real fur, it is more recommendable to have it cleaned by professionals to make sure that the job is done thoroughly.
One more reason which tells us that faux fur is better is that it can last for a longer period of time as compared to the lifespan of real fur. Dyed, real fur can significantly fade in about a year. Faux fur can outlast real fur and may be used for many years – especially if it the fabric was made exceptionally well.
Ultimately, just as the animal welfare groups point out – no animals were required to be harmed in the production of faux fur. Real fur calls for herds of animals to be bred in factory farms just for their furs to be collected.
The last reason is one of faux fur’s best selling points aside from the glamorous look they can add to your wardrobe. These are the main reasons many fashionistas all over the world choose faux fur.
In fashion, whenever we hear that something is made from fake materials, the general reaction would be negative. But with faux fur or fake fur, we can say that you can still be trendy wearing the fake thing.
